I'm not sure why ignorance is considered to be counter intuitive. If we're talking about identification of the different personalities around you, then clearly knowing how to identify those types can be a great advantage. If we're talking about the idea that it's futile to try and change someone else, then I'd argue that you can't truly effect change if you yourself aren't willing to change.
